1 BLOBEL, Gunter and Bernhard Dobberstein. Dr. Blobel is a Nobel Laureate in Medicine or Physiology. TRANSFER OF PROTEINS ACROSS MEMBRANES. Parts I & II.
n. p.: Journal of Cell Biology, 1975. Paperback Near Fine
TWO PAPERS. Two Near Fine extracts from the J. Cell Biology Vol. 67, 1975. Pps. 835-851, 852-862. Self wrappers. The sub-titles of these papers are: Part I-Presence of Proteolytically Processed and Unprocessed Nascent Immunoglobulin Light Chains on Membrane-Bound Ribosomes of Murine Myeloma; Part II-Reconstitution of Functional Rough Microsomes from Heterologous Components. Owner name, number title page. Gunter Blobel (1936- ) provided the key elements to understanding how a newly made protein gets to the correct intracellular location and how proteins enter and move across the membranes surrounding individual organelles within a cell. Dr. Blobel put forth, in a preliminary paper, the so called "signal hypothesis" in 1971. The current papers (1975) are the full development of these ideas and are the central elements of his Nobel Prize winning research. The Committee awarded the prize "for the discovery that proteins have intrinsic signals that govern their transport and localization in the cell". Scarce. Sm 4to.
