The author reviews previous medical commentary on hysteria, concluding that it originates in the ovaria of women so affected. Lee was an obstetrics physician and professor of midwifery; he published a number of works in this field. The plates, drawn by the author, appeared separately in 1858. (Brit. Mus. Gen. Cat. 14, 1151).
