Los Angeles: Dawson's Book Shop, 1966. Hardcover Fine 
A Fine hardback First, Limited Edition with vibrant yellow covered boards in the Korean tradition. Original Near Fine plain yellow Dust Jacket and slipcase. A Limited Edition of 300 copies, 95 of which (copies I-XCV) are the Primary Edition and 205 the regular edition. This is copy No. 187. It contains two original tipped-in specimens printed from movable type, dating from 1795 and 1815 with twenty facsimile specimen pages of movable type which date from 1420 to 1858. The patterned yellow cover paper was made by Mr. Kim Dong-Kyu, the only man in the Republic of Korea who still works at that craft. The traditional wooden blocks used to create the paper are now substantially in museums and private collections.

This work by Melvin McGovern is a tour de force of cultural and printing history. It not only portrays the development of movable type in Korea before Gutenberg but also serves as a catalog of movable type technology on the Korean peninsula over a period of over 400 years.
