SHAWN, Ted. GODS WHO DANCE. New York: E. P. Dutton, 1929. First Edition Hardcover Very Good+ A Very Good+ hardback First Edition First Printing with cover edge wear, owner inscriptions ffep, and a few notes and underlining in bibliography at rear of volume. 8vo. xv, 208 pp. Quite Scarce.
Copy has the signatures and dates of two prior owners: Margaret M. Bolton (1929) who is probably the late, assistant curator for sculpture at the National Gallery; and Beatrice Richardson (1944), a much loved, Southern California dance instructor. Laid in is an announcement of a performance by Shawn at Carnegie Hall on April 15. Because he was to perform alone, this announcement is probably from the 1930s, the Denishawn Dance was disbanded in 1931. Shawn (1891-1972), the author of many books, founded that company with his wife Ruth St Denis; and later founded the Jacob Pillow Dance Festival. Price:
