This is Anne Morrow Lindbergh's first book. It is the classic account of Charles Lindbergh's pioneer flight to the Orient via the great circle route (1931). It is inscribed by him at North Haven, an island off the Maine coast where Anne Morrow Lindbergh's family had a home and from which site many of their aviation adventures originated. Accompanying the book is a four page Autograph Letter Signed by Anne Morrow Lindbergh in 1958. it is addressed from Darien Connecticut to Sister M. Lucia and reads in part: '' I would like very much to come and see you. Perhaps not for lunch, since the children are in school every day and when they are well and in school I go to a little cabin in the woods and try to write--or think through the lunch, taking only some soup and crackers and cheese. When I sit in my little cabin it is very quiet and peaceful and I often hear your bells through the woods. They are beautiful and add to my sense of peace--as well as to a friendly sense of our sharing this beautiful cove with its rocky coast and pines and the gulls overhead and the dark ducks...''
