Title: ON THE ABSORPTION AND DIFFUSION OF SLOW NEUTRONS.
Publisher: Lancaster PA: American Institute of Physics, 1934.
Seller ID: 20322
Fine paper extracted from The Physical Review Vol. 50, November 15, 1936 pages 899-928. Housed in a modern printed wrapper. The paper #118b in the Collected Papers of Enrico Fermi (University of Chicago Press). The original (#118a) was in Italian. The current paper was translated by E. Amaldi.
This paper is a summary of results, reported in 6 immediately prior publications, obtained in Fermi's laboratory from October 1935 through May 1936. It deals specifically with slow neutrons. Fermi's next paper, written in Italian and not translated into English, is the theory behind the observations of slow neutron behavior reported in the current communication. According to Amaldi, he urged Fermi to translate the later theoretical paper into English . Fermi's reply was that he did not want to waste time and that if someone was interested in studying slow neutrons, he would have to read the original even though it was in Italian.
